A new year means new resolutions! You don’t have to completely change your lifestyle to create positive new patterns in your life this next year. Even picking a few small changes to commit to can make a huge difference!

If you are someone who values sustainability and health are always looking for new chances to implement eco-friendly habits into your life. Then you might want to consider these 10 sustainable new year’s resolutions.

  1. Donate your stuff!

Rather than hoarding boxes of things you never use anymore, maybe it’s time for a clean out! From trinkets to old clothes, there is nothing wrong with removing excessive clutter from your life. And even better when those things are donated to support others who can use them

2.  Always pack a reusable bag

You never know when you’re going to need an extra bag! Whether you’re planning on shopping or not, it’s always a good idea to pack a reusable bag. Keep one in your purse, another in your car, and another in your stroller so that you’re always prepared. Goodbye plastic bags!

3. Unplug your chargers

Did you know that about 10% of the average household’s monthly energy bill can be attributed to ‘phantom energy’? This means that your chargers, TVs, and electronic devices continue to draw power while plugged in, even if they’re turned off. Simply unplugging these cords when not in use or using a power strip can reduce energy waste and lower utility costs!

4. Consider clean cosmetics

Common everyday cosmetic products often have microbeads in them, which eventually end up in the ocean, harming marine life. The waste just isn’t worth the damage! There are many other clean cosmetic alternatives to consider. Check out our blog about transitioning to a clean beauty routine to learn more!

5. Use fewer paper towels!

Paper towels are the number 1 item to end up in landfills. So next time you reach for something to wipe up the kitchen counter, consider using a reusable cloth rag instead!

6. Buy reusable batteries

Rather than constantly buying and throwing out batteries, consider buying reusable batteries this new year. Since reusable batteries can be used over and over, less batteries have to be produced, which means less unnecessary waste!

7. Eat less meat

This one can be difficult for some people, but you don’t have to go vegetarian to make a difference! Even lowering your meat consumption one day a week can immensely reduce your carbon footprint. Consider trying meatless Mondays this year!

8. Grow your houseplant ecosystem

I believe that a plant home is a happy home! From cleaner air to improved mood, there are so many benefits to having plants in your spaces. Don’t have a green thumb? No worries! There are tons of easy maintenance plants that even I can’t kill!

9. Drive less

Depending on where you live, it’s a great idea to consider driving less as a sustainable new year’s resolution. Whether that means taking public transportation, riding your bike, or walking where you need to go throughout the week, reducing your carbon emissions can make a huge difference!

10. Don't shop, swap!

Before you head out to buy a brand new wardrobe for this new year, consider swapping your used clothes with a friend! A clothes swap party can be a fun, sustainable and free way to find new pieces to revamp your look.

Implementing even just a few of these sustainable new year’s resolutions to your lifestyle this coming year can make an impact on how we care for the environment! What other eco-friendly habits do you want to practice this year?
